CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's lacrosse team was defeated by the Frostburg State University Bobcats by a score of 24-2 on Thursday afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 0-6 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 3-3.
The first quarter started close after
Ramsey Burnard scored on a man-up opportunity from a pass by
Quincy Dumarce to make the score 2-1 with 10:38 in the period. The Bobcats then went on a 3-0 run to finish the first quarter with a 5-1 lead. The second quarter was all Frostburg State as they held Malone scoreless and finished the quarter with a 15-1 lead at halftime. The Pioneers struggled offensively as they were outshot 18-0 in the second period.
John Mautz III added his name to the board for Malone with 3:39 left in the third period to make the score 19-2. The Pioneers struggled with possession in the third quarter with seven turnovers. Malone was unsuccessful in finding a goal during the fourth quarter and finished the game with a 24-2 defeat against the Bobcats. Although Frostburg dominated throughout the period, the Pioneers did go 100% (4-for-4) on their clears in the period.Â
Malone was outshot 62-12 in total and had 33 turnovers compared to 22 for the Bobcats. Pioneer goalkeeper
Andy Lopez (0-4) recorded a 28% (6-for-21) save percentage between the pipes.
Zach Johnson took over in the crease, recording a 40% (6-for-15) save rate.
The Pioneers will face-off against the Davis and Elkins College Senators at home to continue their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) run on March 7 at 12:00 P.M.Â
