PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Malone University women's lacrosse team had a dominant win over the Ursuline College Arrows, 16-1. The Pioneers improve to 8-2 on the season while the Arrows fall to 1-8. In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), Malone stands at 2-1, and Ursuline drops to 0-3.
The first period was all Pioneers as they went on a 7-0 run in the quarter.
Abbey Burns led Malone's offense with a hat trick in the first period. The Pioneers pressured Ursuline's defense with 80% (12-for-15) of their shots being on-goal.
In the second quarter, the period stayed in Malone's favor as
Ashtyn Praeter and
Olivia Marcantonio both scored a pair of goals each to extend the lead 11-1 going into halftime. The Pioneers dominated at the center with an 80% (4-for-1) win rate on the draws. Malone finished the first half outshooting Ursuline, 24-7.
The third period was a quiet one for the Pioneers as
Alana Samek recorded the only goal of the quarter at 8:32 to give Malone a 12-1 lead. The Pioneers did finish the period with 100% (3-for-3) on their clears and 100% (2-for-2) on the draw.
In the fourth quarter,
Brooklyn Essik scored her first collegiate goal for the Pioneers to give them a comfortable 13-1 lead at 13:24. The Pioneers finished the fourth period with a 16-1 victory over the Arrows. Malone finished with an impressive 67% (27-for-40) of their shots being on-goal in today's performance.
The Pioneers were led by Burns with four goals, followed by Samek (3),
Cam English (2), Praeter (2), Marcantonio (2),
Caroline Bobo (1),
Meg Ridgway (1), and Essik (1). Goalkeeper
Sydney Atkinson (8-2) recorded an 88% (8-for-9) save rate between the pipes.
The Malone University women's lacrosse team will continue its Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) run as they host the Lake Erie College Storm on March 28 at 4:00 P.M.
