HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Malone University men's lacrosse team lost on the road on Saturday afternoon to the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters 22-5. The Pioneers now fall to 0-5 on the season while the Railsplitters improve to 3-1.
The first quarter started rough for Malone as Lincoln Memorial was up 4-0 with 5:11 left in the period.
Darek Smith was able to answer for the Pioneers with an unassisted goal to make the score 4-1. With nine seconds left in the quarter,
Liam Sullivan put himself on the board from an assist by
Larkin Smith to only trail 4-2 going into the second.Â

The Railsplitters started the second quarter with a 3-0 run over the Pioneers until
Quincy Dumarce scored his third goal of the season off a pass by
Ramsey Burnard with 5:59 left in the period. Lincoln Memorial continued their pressure as they extended their lead to 9-3 going into halftime. The Railsplitters outshot the Pioneers 27-3 in the second quarter.
Lincoln Memorial stayed on the offensive as they extended their lead to 11-3 with 11:53 remaining in the third quarter. A Smith goal would be the only offense for the Pioneers in the period. Malone finished the quarter trailing the Railsplitters 16-4. Lincoln Memorial dominated groundballs as they secured 15-of-19 in the period.Â

The fourth quarter was no different for the Pioneers as
Adam Rucker was the only goal scorer with 7:21 left in the period. Lincoln Memorial continued on the offensive as they defeated the Pioneers 22-5. Malone finished the fourth quarter with a 100% (4-for-4) clearing rate.
Smith led the Pioneers in scoring with two goals, followed by Dumarce (1), Rucker (1), and Sullivan (1). Malone was outshot significantly by the Railsplitters, 71-23.
Goalkeeper
Andy Lopez (0-4) recorded his fourth start in the cage for Malone and went 59% (13-for-22) for saves. It was a tough day at the faceoff for the Pioneers as
Ty McCort and
Nick Grover combined for a 30% (9-for-30) at the X.
Looking ahead, Malone men's lacrosse hosts the Frostburg State University Bobcats on Thursday, March 5 at 4:00 P.M.
