PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Malone University men's soccer team fell to Lake Erie College 2-1 on Thursday evening. The Pioneers are now 2-8-1 on the year while the Storm improves to 6-4-3. In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), Malone falls to 1-6-1 and Lake Erie jumps to 5-2-2.
The first half started off in the Storm's favor with an early goal over the Pioneers at 18:08. Malone was looking for an answer until
Charlie Noovao-Martin connected with
Ryan Kibler for a Pioneer goal to make the score 1-1 in the last 30 seconds of the first half. The Malone offense was finding their rhythm in the first half with four shots, two from
James Bolton.
The second half started off similarly to the first with the Storm taking a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute of the match. The Pioneers offense was met with a strong defensive effort by Lake Erie and held them without a shot. At the final whistle, the Storm claimed a 2-1 victory over Malone.
The Pioneer offense was led by Kibler as he was the solo goal scorer in tonight's match. Goalkeeper
Roman Sigafoos (1-4-1) finished the match with three saves on five shots-on-goal. Sigafoos,
Camden Albertson, Christopher Onye, Drew Kapsak, and
Valentino Makhubele stayed on the pitch for the full 90.
The Pioneers will look to turn things around on October 10 as they travel to Findlay, Ohio, to take on the University of Findlay for another Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
