Tiffin Defeats Malone

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Malone University volleyball team lost their tenth consecutive match on Saturday at Tiffin University, 3-0. The Pioneers are now 4-19 overall and 2-9 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) action. The Dragons are 5-17 and all of those victories have come inside the G-MAC (5-5).

Set one featured four lead changes and 11 times the score was tied. Brianne Salinas was called upon and came through for kills twice with Tiffin at set point, but it was the Dragons who came away with the opening stanza win, 28-26. The Pioneers had 16 kills in the period, led by Marissa Smith with four.

Malone claimed a 3-0 lead in set two thanks to back-to-back aces from Emma Weirich. The Dragons would get back on track from there, however and hit an incredible .733 in the second to clinch the 2-0 lead, 25-16. Set three would be more of the same with an error-free set from the attackers with 11 kills for a 25-9 triumph.

The offense was decently effective for Malone led by Smith with 11 kills and Weirich with four aces, but the defense lacked after Tiffin hit a season-high for a Pioneer opponent at .408. Each side had 25 digs and Ella Kresak (5) was the team leader for Malone.

The Pioneers are in Canton for four of their final five regular season contests, beginning with a matchup with Ashland University on Tuesday, October 27 at 7:00 P.M.
