Volleyball Defeated by Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio - The Ashland University Eagles defeated the Malone University Pioneers in straight sets for their ninth consecutive Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) victory. Malone falls to 4-15 overall and 2-4 inside the league while Ashland moves to 14-2 and 9-0.

A massive 15-3 run for the Eagles propelled the home team to a 19-8 lead after the score was tied 5-5 early in the first. Head Coach Lauren Allaway was forced to use both of her timeouts during the run, but could not turn momentum in favor of the Pioneers. Ashland's serving was too much with seven aces in the 25-11 first set. The Eagles also hit .600 with ten kills and one error.

Set two was much more closely contested, but Ashland jumped out to an 8-3 lead and kept Malone from getting ahead despite little runs offensively. The Eagles claimed the set 25-20, but the Pioneers were much-improved offensively and defensively. Hailey Conrad led the way with four kills and the team hit .257 (12 kills, three errors).

Malone was unable to regroup in the third and final set and ultimately fell by a score of 25-16. The Eagles once again showed their offensive efficiency with a .333 hitting percentage (12 kills, three errors). Jaymes Gilbert provided a spark with four kills in the third set.

Kelsey Williams dished out a team-high 15 assists, the most to Conrad with eight kills. Conrad hit .700 on the night along with Gilbert at .364 and Kassidy Gorsuch at .300. Defensively, Marissa Smith led the way with eight digs and Ella Kresak had seven.

The Pioneers play host to Ohio Dominican University on Saturday, October 3 beginning at 1:00 P.M. The match will be the program's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
