Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pioneers and Eagles End in 2-2 Stalemate

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's soccer team hosted Ashland University on Tuesday and the Pioneers were hoping to win over a competitive team in the conference. Malone scored and fought to the final minute, but were unable to win as they tied with Ashland, 2-2. The Pioneers are now 2-8-2 and 1-6-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) while the Eagles are now 5-7-1 and 4-5-1.

The game started with an exchange of shots by both teams. Ashland would advance and Malone would advance from the previous Ashland attack. This would go on for the first 15 minutes of the game. Then, in the 17th minute, Malone's Felipe Matheis Albertim found the back of the net by ricocheting it off an Ashland defender. Dionysios Tsirambidis and Camden Albertson were credited with assists on the play. The score was 1-0 in favor of Malone.

Ashland did not give up. They too would attack and have a shot in the 23rd minute and would retaliate with a goal of their own in the 26th minute to even the score a 1-1. The first half came to a close with Ashland controlling the final fifteen minutes with taking three shots to Malone's one. This score would remain deadlocked until the end of the half.

The second half looked like a mirror image of the first. Both teams would try to size up one another and try to find open opportunities to score. The ball was kicked back and forth throughout the pitch until Josiah Bixler scored a goal to break the tie in the 61st minute off a feed by Matheis Albertim.

Ashland was determined to score before the second half concluded. Ashland was taking advantage of Malone fouls, which helped them to advance up the field. The Eagles scored in the 75th minute to retie the score 2-2.

Try as they might, none of the attempts by the Pioneers in the closing minutes found the mark. Roman Sigafoos (1-5-2) made two saves in goal but the Eagles were able to rattle off 20 shots compared to Malone's 16. The Pioneers were much more efficient in shots-on-goal with an 8-6 edge.

Malone makes their final road trip of the regular season on Saturday, October 17 at Walsh University. The action begins at 7:00 P.M.
