GREENVILLE, S.C. – Freshman goalkeeper
Roman Sigafoos on the Malone University men's soccer team has been awarded the NCCAA Athlete of the Week. It is the first NCCAA Athlete of the Week award in his career and fifth all-time for the program.
The freshman from Harleysville, Pennsylvania made his first start in goal for the Pioneers in Saturday's match versus the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets, the 15th-ranked team in NCAA Division II.
Despite the 2-1 loss, Sigafoos impressed with four saves, two in each period. The potent Cedarville offense recorded 11 shots, five of which were on-goal. The Malone defense allowed just one corner kick that came in the third minute of play. The Pioneers took four on their end of the field.
Malone will play host to Kentucky Wesleyan College on Thursday, October 2 for a men's and women's soccer doubleheader. The Pioneer women begin play at 5:00 P.M. with the men to follow at 7:30 P.M.
