Late Rally Comes Up Short for Pioneers Versus #15 Yellow Jackets

CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University men's soccer team hosted Cedarville University on Saturday for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match-up. The visiting Yellow Jackets are ranked 15th in the nation and secured a 2-1 win. They are now 5-0-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. The Pioneers fall to a 0-7-0 overall record and 0-4-0 in the G-MAC.
 
Cedarville was able to put one in the net to start the game. This would come off a throw in to make the score 1-0 in the fourth minute. Malone was unable to get many shots off in the first half with only one coming from Camden Albertson in the 31st minute. The Pioneers were able to hold the Yellow Jackets to a 1-0 lead to end the half.
 
Cedarville again started the half strong scoring their second goal in the 51st minute of the game. A shot from Diego Vita came close but was saved by the Yellow Jacket keeper. Shortly after Thembani Phoya would put the ball in the net for Malone with an assist from Albertson. This was in the 72nd minute to make the score 2-1. Silas Coleman, Andres Eizaga, and Mason Gradel would each attempt a shot to tie the game but none fell.
 
Defender Dylan DiPiero and goalkeeper Roman Sigafoos each played the entire 90 minutes. Sigafoos (0-2-0) would end the match with four total saves.
 
Up next for the Pioneers is another G-MAC matchup against Kentucky Wesleyan College. Kick off will be Thursday, October 2 at 7:30 P.M.
