Ohio Dominican Defeats Malone

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Malone University baseball team was defeated by Ohio Dominican University on Saturday in a doubleheader. The Pioneers fall to 16-29 overall and 7-21 inside the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) with losses of 8-5 and 12-5. The Panthers are looking to clinch a berth to the G-MAC Tournament at 18-28 and 12-16 in conference play.

GAME ONE RECAP:
Malone fell behind 2-0 through one inning, but quickly turned things around in the second. Anthony Ryan started the scoring with a solo homerun and Eric Baum followed that up with an RBI single and Anthony Bartiromo with a double to make it 3-2.

Things got away from the Pioneers in the third when the Panthers rallied for six runs to chase the starter Finn Schmitt (2-6) from the game. Jake Barker scored a run in the fifth with an RBI double and then Bartiromo had another run batted in with a sixth-inning single, but it was not enough to complete the rally in the 8-5 loss.

Bartiromo, Ryan and Jordan Stevens had multi-hit games for Malone. Cole Miller provided excellent support from the Pioneer bullpen with 3.1 innings without a run.

GAME TWO RECAP:
Baum got things started on the right foot with an RBI single in the second, but a pair of homeruns and several unearned runs in the third led to a 6-1 deficit. Ohio Dominican increased the lead to 8-1 in the fourth with a sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single.

The two teams would trade runs over the final few innings to get to the 12-5 final score. Ethan Petak had a sacrifice fly in the fifth and RBI single in the seventh while Bartiromo left the yard and Allen Diaz added a sacrifice fly for the Malone offense.

Several Pioneers had multiple hits, including Ryan (3), Bartiromo (2), Baum (2) and Zach Root (2). Jacob Rollyson (2-5) allowed six runs, but just three were earned. Cooper Davies had two strikeouts and allowed one unearned run in his inning of relief work.

UP NEXT:
The final series of the regular season takes place at home on May 2-3 against Thomas More University.
