CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University softball team hosted a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) doubleheader on Thursday against Lake Erie College. The Pioneers collected both games to move to 23-15 overall and 9-11 in the conference. The Storm are now 2-41 overall and 2-20 in the G-MAC.
GAME ONE RECAP:
Jessie Crookston secured the first hit of the game with a single up the middle but would be left on base in the bottom of the first. It wouldn't be until the bottom of the third where Malone would get more hits with
Madi Pukansky leading off with a double.
Lacie Quarles would bring herself and Pukansky home off an inside-the-park home run. Lake Erie would answer back with a home run over the fence making the score 2-1 in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth, Pukansky homered to make the score 3-1.
Aricka Young singled through the left side in the bottom of the sixth. A sacrifice bunt moved Young to second and an error by the Storm brought her home.
Marlee Pireu hit a double to right field where Lake Erie would make another error to bring in another run for the Pioneers at 5-1.
Malone was able to get the bats swinging in game one with eleven hits compared to the Storm's two. Pukansky went 2-for-2 at the plate with Quarles and
Mia Rose behind her going 2-for-3. Rose (9-10) was the winning pitcher and only gave up two hits.
GAME TWO RECAP:
Pireu was walked then stole second to start the bottom of the first in game two.
Faith Yoho brought in Pireu off a single to right field making the score 1-0 to end the first inning. Yoho drove in the team's second run as well with a single through the left side of the infield.
In Lake Erie's last chance at the plate, they would double then single to bring in a run which made the final score 2-1.
The Pioneers were led by Crookston and Yoho at 2-for-3 at the plate.
Gabby Meade was 1-for-1 with a hit in her pinch-hitting appearance.
Allie Weilnau (14-5) got the win with four strikeouts.

Malone softball hosts Tiffin University on Saturday, April 26 for another G-MAC doubleheader. The Pioneers will be celebrating their four seniors before game one which has a start time of 12:00 P.M.
