Softball Falls in Extra Innings Twice to Ashland

CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University softball team traveled to Ashland University on Saturday for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) doubleheader. The Pioneers lost both games in extra innings making their overall record 18-12 and 6-8 in the conference. The Eagles are now 22-10 overall and 12-2 in the G-MAC.

GAME ONE RECAP:
Game one was a pitching battle between Malone and Ashland with Mia Rose striking out four batters in the bottom of the second with the help of a passed ball. Ella Collinsworth doubled in the top of the third, but was left on base. The same went for Rose in the fourth and Sidney Conti in the seventh to end regulation play. The Eagles would score on a walk-off single to win game one 1-0.

Young, Rose, Conti, and Collinsworth all went 1-for-3 at the plate. Rose (7-8) ended game one with 11 strikeouts and one walk.

GAME TWO RECAP:
Game two involved runs earlier on with the first being from Ashland after an error put runners on base. The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth. Amber Miller and Rose both hit singles to get the bats started for the Pioneers. Marlee Pireu stole second after reaching on a fielder's choice and Conti would hit a sacrifice fly to even the score. The Eagles would walk it off yet again, this time off of an error.

Miller led in hitting at 2-for-4 and Conti brought in the lone Pioneer run. Pitching for Malone was Allie Weilnau (11-4) with five strikeouts.

UP NEXT:
The Pioneers will travel to Buckhannon, West Viginia for a doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Tuesday, April 15. Game one will start at 2:00 P.M.
