WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Malone University baseball team dropped a game by a score of 21-3 against Wayne State University on Saturday afternoon during their spring break trip. Both the Warriors and Pioneers are 6-6 overall on the season following the results of Saturday's game.
An
Allen Diaz homerun in the top of the first started Malone on the right foot, but Wayne State answered with five runs on two longballs in the bottom half of the inning. They supplemented that with one run in the second and three in the third to chase the starting pitcher
Jacob Rollyson (1-1) from the game.
An
Eric Baum single to left gave the Pioneers a run in the top of the fourth inning, but once again, the Warrior offense was too much in the bottom half of the frame. Wayne State piled on four more runs in the fourth and an eight-spot in the fifth made the score 21-2. Baum came around to score on a wild pitch in the seventh to get to the final score of 21-3 in seven innings.
Baum and
Anthony Ryan had multi-hit days for the Pioneers. Rollyson had three of the team's four strikeouts on the mound, all looking.
A day off awaits Malone on Sunday before facing Bloomfield College on Monday, March 10 at 12:15 P.M.
