Women's Lacrosse Suffers First Defeat in Florida

03/04/25

Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla.- The Malone University women's lacrosse team continued their Florida road trip with a non-conference match up against Webber International University. In a closely contested affair, the Pioneers ultimately suffered their first defeat and dropped to 3-1 on the season by a final score of 9-6.

Abbey Burns opened the scoring for Malone but was quickly matched by a Warrior goal. Meg Ridgway regained the lead for Malone but Webber International knotted things up at two a piece after the first quarter.

The Warriors came out firing in the second quarter with a rapid fire trio of goals to take a 5-2 lead. Ridgway scored her second of the game just before halftime to cut the deficit to two.

Webber International opened the second half with two goals and just when Malone seemed dead in the water they stormed back. Emma Weintz rifled home a feed from Olivia Marcantonio. Alana Samek followed suit by ripping twine on an assist from Lexi Miller, Ridgway fired home her third of the game thanks to the help of Jorjia Meza. With the Pioneers facing a 6-7 deficit they looked to knot things up, unfortunately the Warriors had other ideas as they scored a pair and tightened up defensively to secure a 9-6 victory.

Ridgway led Malone with three goals while Weintz followed with a goal and an assist of her own. Samantha Williams forced a pair of Warrior turnovers and Sommer-Jo Grieser defended six shots for the Pioneers.

Up next for Malone is a trip to St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida. The opening draw control is scheduled for 4:00 P.M.
