CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Malone University softball team traveled to Cedarville University on Saturday for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) doubleheader. The Pioneers dropped game one 2-1 and game two 4-1 to put them at 14-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Yellow Jackets are now 13-18 overall and 8-2 in the G-MAC.
GAME ONE RECAP:
A pitching duel between Malone's
Mia Rose and Cedarville provided for a low scoring game.
Lacie Quarles singled to left field and the Pioneers were able to draw first blood off a double to left center from
Sidney Conti in the top of the third.
Malone would hold the Yellow Jackets scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Cedarville brought in two runners off a double to left field. The Pioneers battled back in the top of the seventh after singles form Quarles and Rose, but both would be left stranded.
Malone outhit Cedarville with eight hits compared to the Yellow Jackets three. At the plate the Pioneers were led by Quarles who went 3-for-3 and
Faith Yoho who went 2-for-3. Rose (6-4) pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts.
GAME TWO RECAP:
In game two of the doubleheader, Malone fell behind early with Cedarville's three runs in the bottom on the first. The Pioneers responded in the top of the second after
Madi Pukansky singled down the left line and
Ella Collinsworth hit a single to advance Pukansky to third.
Aricka Young singled down the right line to bring one run in for Malone.
Cedarville was able to cross the plate again in the bottom of the fourth to give them a 4-1 lead. In the top of the fifth, the Pioneers loaded the bases but were unable to advance the runners.
Allie Weilnau (8-2) pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.

Malone returns home for another G-MAC doubleheader Tuesday, April 1 against Ursuline College. Game one will start at 2:00 P.M.
