CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University men's lacrosse team dropped a home contest to #19 University of Montevallo by a score of 25-8. The Falcons (8-3) outshot the Pioneers (4-6) 71-30. 47 of the Montevallo attempts were on-goal.
Malone had a solid first quarter with four goals in total. The Falcons put in the first two goals and the Pioneers answered with four in a row.
John Mautz III targeted
Talon Heath for the team's first goal with 9:20 on the clock.
Luke Ory netted the equalizing goal and then assisted Mautz III on the go-ahead score.
Ramsey Burnard had an unassisted goal to conclude the run with five minutes left in the quarter.
Montevallo rattled off one goal to end the first down 4-3 and then outscored Malone 7-1 in the second quarter to claim a 10-5 halftime lead. Heath netted the lone goal for the Pioneers in the period.
Ory began the third quarter with a goal just eight seconds in after
Ty McCort won the faceoff and Heath scored once more a few moments later to make it 11-7 Falcons, but it was all Montevallo from there. The Falcons poured in 13 consecutive goals to widen the gap and sail to the 25-8 victory.
Zac Smargiasso had the only fourth quarter score for the team.
Cody Borgert forced four of the team's seven caused turnovers. Goalie
Nick Sanderson led the way with seven ground balls collected. Sanderson (3-3) made a career-high 22 saves in the loss.
Malone men's lacrosse will celebrate the senior class of 2025 prior to the start of their next game on Saturday, March 29 against Virginia State University. The opening face-off is set for 12:00 P.M.
