Malone Adds Two More NCCAA National Champions on Saturday

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Malone University track & field program notched two more individual national champions on Saturday at the 2025 NCCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Xander Heil (4:21.54) and Hayden Schmidt (8:42.97) brought home titles in the mile run and 3,000-meter run for the Pioneers.
 
The Malone men maintained their third-place spot in the team standings and the women dropped to fifth on day two of the event. Cedarville University was able to sweep both the men's and women's NCCAA team championships.
 
Four runner-up finishes paced the rest of the men's team. Gavin Tribelo was second in the shot put at 14.73 meters (48' 4.00") and notched a ninth-place finish in the weight throw (13.93 meters / 45' 8.50"). His best shot put throw is good for ninth on Malone's all-time top-10 indoor list. Alex Swinehart also climbed that list with his new personal best total of 4,071 in the heptathlon, the seventh-best score in program history.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team and the 4x800-meter relay teams each recorded a second-place finish on Saturday. Sabastian Lacatus, Tyler Twining, Brylan Holland and Eric Dehmer ran a 3:27.35 in the shorter of the two relays and Will Potts, Manamanya Opiew, Cayden Bonham and Holland compiled an 8:11.93. Dehmer was also third in the 800-meter run (1:56.89) and Lacatus seventh in the 200-meter event (22.65 seconds).
 
The women had consistent performers throughout the running events and the long jump. The 4x800-meter relay team of Rebekah Stoneman, Kaelyn Jones, Rachel Whetstone and Jenna Cassidy were second at 10:05.19. Allea Graves (1:00.69) and Lexi Tucci (5.25 meters / 17' 2.75") won bronze medal honors in their events, the 400-meter run and the long jump.
 
Brooklyn McIntyre (2:25.26) and Riley Yocum (10:40.65) were each inside the top-five in their individual events, the 800-meter run and the 3,000-meter run. The 4x400-meter relay team of Cara Pipitone, McIntyre, Gabriella Gudger and Graves were fifth as well at 4:17.02. Rounding out scoring members for the women were Macey Hicks in the 200-meter run at 26.45 seconds (sixth) and Kristin Yeager in the mile run (seventh).
 
The Pioneers compete in split squad action next weekend at Liberty University (February 14 and 15) as well as the SPIRE Institute (February 15).
