CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University men's basketball team hosted the #13 University of Findlay on Saturday for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) game. The Pioneers fell short 68-52 to put them at 9-13 overall and 5-9 in the G-MAC. The Oilers now hold a 20-3 overall record and 13-2 in the conference.
To start the first half, Malone was able to gain a lead with a three from
Tre Baumgardner III followed by a layup from
Simon Blair. Findlay got their first lead of the game where it was then back and forth shortly after. The Oilers were able to extend their lead to seven points to end the half with a score of 33-26.
The Pioneers were unable to gain the lead back in the second half. An and-one off a fast break from
Tahleik Walker gave Malone their first points of the period.
Jake Bruns made a three off another fastbreak quickly after. Findlay was able to keep their lead throughout the rest of the game to make the final score 68-52.
Leading scorers for the Pioneers included Blair with 17 points and
Fraser LaRocque with 12.
Caleb Conard ended the game with a total of seven rebounds and LaRocque tallied six. Malone was able to win in points in the paint by a mark of 34-28. The Pioneers were also able to get 11 points off fast breaks compared to Findlay's four.
Malone's next game is at home on Tuesday, February 11 against Walsh University for the 61st Annual Mayors' Cup game. Tip off will be at 7:30 P.M.
