CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Malone University women's lacrosse team remained undefeated with a dominant 17-4 win at Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 2-0 while the Lions fall to 0-2.
Malone fell behind 1-0, but from there the Pioneers took firm control. The visiting team rattled off ten straight goals to end the first period, three of which came from
Cam English.
Jorjia Meza and
Emma Weintz had multiple goals in the first as well. The first quarter ended at 12-2 thanks to a fourth goal from English and a second by
Abbey Burns. Burns assisted on three other goals in the first.
The Pioneers were able to keep things rolling in the second quarter and took a 14-3 lead into halftime.
Natalie Gibson and
Lela Plouse tallied scores before the end of the second period.
The clock was running for the entirety of the second half thanks to the lead by Malone.
Adeline Shingleton recorded a fourth quarter goal in the 17-4 victory.
Defensively,
Sydney Atkinson (1-0) got the win in net after 45 minutes of work. She made four saves and collected a team-high four ground balls. Weintz had three ground balls and caused three turnovers, the most for the Pioneer defense.
Alana Samek won five draw controls.
Burns paced a red-hot offense with seven points (three goals, four assists). Meza had five points (three goals, two assists) and English netted four goals, a team-high mark. Nine different student-athletes had points for Malone on the day.
The Pioneers head to Florida for their next game at Warner University on March 3.
