Pioneers Slay Dragons 82-50

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University women's basketball team (20-5, 14-3) returned to Osborne Hall on Thursday night to face the Tiffin University Dragons (8-18, 3-14) in another Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup. The Pioneers were able to defeat the Dragons 82-50.

In the first quarter, the game remained close for the first two minutes. Brinn Hunt opened the Pioneers' scoring with a three-pointer. Tiffin led 7-5 at the 6:15 mark in the quarter, but from that point forward, the Pioneers completely controlled the game. They were able to get multiple stops while their offense heated up. The final 24 points of the period belonged to Malone in a 29-7 quarter.

The Pioneers continued to build on the lead as they capped off a huge 36-0 run from 6:15 in the first quarter to the 6:53 mark in the second quarter. The Dragons were unable to recover from the 41-7 deficit. Malone had stellar shooting from the perimeter at 9-for-18 from deep. After the huge run, the Pioneers maintained all the momentum 48-19 at the half.

The third quarter saw Malone continue to dominate the scoreboard while Tiffin could only play catch-up. The Pioneers opened the half on an 11-2 run and led 68-34 through three. The Dragons would take the fourth quarter 16-14, but it was not enough in the 82-50 victory for the home team.

Junior Aila Miller led the Pioneers in scoring with 17 points on 6-for-9 from the field with three timely three-pointers. In the team win, Hunt (11 points) and Erin Kaufman (14 points) were also in double figures. Kaufman had a double-double with 10 rebounds as well. Erin's younger sister Katie Kaufman also contributed a solid eight points and six rebounds off the bench. Nataley Armstrong's night was highlighted by an and-one to give her nine points. She and Erin Kaufman had four assists apiece to lead the Pioneers.

Malone travels to Northwood University for their final regular season road contest on Saturday, November 22 for a 1:00 P.M. tip-off in the Mitten State.
