LIBERTY, Mo. – The Malone University men's lacrosse team traveled west to the state of Missouri for their first road game of the 2025 season, but came up short against William Jewell College by a score of 13-7. The Pioneers fall to 1-1 overall while the Cardinals improve their record to 2-1.
Talon Heath scored the first goal of the game for Malone while
John Mautz III,
Darek Smith and
Zac Smargiasso added on to even the score at four apiece.
William Jewell would go on a scoring run in the middle stages of the first half to claim a 10-4 lead. Ramsey Bernard broke up the rally with a score, however the Cardinals tacked on two more to make it 12-5.
Mautz III scored a pair of goals late, but the deficit was too much to overcome and Malone fell by a final score of 13-7. The sophomore tallied a team-high three goals in the loss.
Ty McCort was 8-of-14 on face-off tries and
Alex Lavalle was credited with three saves.
The road trip continues for the Pioneers on Saturday, February 22 at Mars Hill University.
