Pioneers Dominate Dragons for 13th Straight Win

TIFFIN, Ohio. - The #21 Malone University women's basketball team went on the road to face the Tiffin University Dragons in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) battle on Saturday afternoon. Malone used a massive 20-6 first quarter to set the tone and establish all the momentum for the 69-46 win on the road.

The 13th consecutive victory pushed Malone's record to 18-2 overall and the team is still perfect in conference play at 12-0. Tiffin falls to 7-14 and 2-10 inside the league.

After a dominant first period, the Pioneers continued to control the game in the second and pushed the lead to 20 points at the half, 38-18. The third quarter was the same story as Malone grew their lead to 53-30 at the end of the third quarter. Much like the last game, the Pioneers were able to show the depth of their bench in the final quarter. Malone cruised to the 23-point win, 69-46.

Junior Erin Kaufman continued to dominate with a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Kaufman had seven of those rebounds on the offensive end of the floor. The Dragons had no answer for Malone's three-point shooting as seven Pioneers hit a three-pointer, highlighted by a buzzer-beater three by senior Kyli Horn in the third quarter. Junior Aila Miller also contributed to win with 14 points, the second most on the team. Senior Brooklyn Troyer had three successful three-point tries for 11 points. Junior Nataley Armstrong added a team-high seven assists.

The Pioneers controlled nearly all aspects of the game, highlighted by points off turnovers (25-5), points in the paint (28-18), second chance points (15-3) and bench points (29-25).

The Pioneers retained the top spot in the G-MAC standings with the victory. The team's next game will come against the nationally-ranked Ashland University Eagles at home on Thursday, February 6 at 5:30 P.M.
