Pioneers Continue Their Onslaught of Non-Conference Opponents

CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University women's basketball team pulled off their fourth straight win this season against Roosevelt University. The Pioneers won 83-57 which put them at 4-0 this season and the Lakers are now 0-3.
 
A pair of triples from Erin Kaufman helped put Malone up 10-0 with 6:43 in the first. It wasn't until 5:44 when Roosevelt received their first point at 12-1. To extend their lead, Brinn Hunt hit a set of triples to go up 22-8. Nataley Armstrong ended the first quarter with a buzzer beater (24-11). Malone shot 83.33% from the three-point line in the first.
 
The second quarter started with a three from Roosevelt, but was quickly answered with a layup from Kaufman. With 5:36 left on the clock, Hunt hit her third three of the game which made the score 33-17. With just over three minutes left in the half, the Lakers would hit a three, but Aila Miller answered with her own triple. The remainder of the second, teams went bucket-for-bucket to end the half with a score of 44-27.
 
The third started with back-to-back buckets from Kylee Bruce and Armstrong which put the Pioneers up by 22 at 49-27. Roosevelt answered some makes of their own, but the third ended with a basket from Abbey Price which put the score at 62-44. Malone shot 63.64% (7-for-11) from the field in the third quarter.
 
Hunt would start the fourth quarter with her fourth triple of the game just over 30 seconds in. The Pioneers would then go on a short scoring run with threes from Kaufman and Kamryn Ruffin (74-46). The fourth consisted of 20 total fouls from both teams combined so many points came from foul shots. Malone was able to go 80% from the free throw line in the quarter. Ruffin brought the Pioneer lead up almost 30, but Roosevelt finished with a layup to make the final score 83-57.
 
Malone won in points off turnovers (22-17), bench points (39-12), and points in the paint (32-26). They shot 55.2% from the field and 57.9% from the three-point line. Kaufman (15) and Hunt (14) led the Pioneers in points. Kaufman went 3-for-3 from the three and Hunt went 4-for-5 from deep. Close behind them were Armstrong with 12 points and Oliver with 11. Bridget Barber was able to pull down eight rebounds on the night.
 
Up next, Malone has a long drive to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to play Lake Superior State University on Monday, November 24. Tip-off will be at 5:00 P.M.
