CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University women's basketball team hosted their second game of the weekend against the University of Indianapolis. The Pioneers pulled off a 94-57 win against the Greyhounds to put them at 2-0 and Indianapolis, 0-2.
To start the first, a trifecta of triples from
Kylee Bruce put Malone up 9-2 at 7:07 remaining. The Greyhounds attempted to shorten the Pioneers lead, but a three from
Anna Krupa put the lead into double-digits. Layups from
Elena Oliver and
Irene Maroto fueled the offense late in the quarter and defensively, Oliver ended the first quarter with a steal, 26-15.
Malone caused multiple turnovers from Indianapolis and did not allow a bucket until 5:42 in the second.
Meredith Randulic hit a jump shot which put the Pioneers up with a 25-point lead.
Bridget Barber answered a Greyhounds three with an and-one. Malone won the quarter 21-7 only allowed two Indianapolis makes from the field. The score to end the second was 47-22.
With both teams fouling, the third quarter included many points that came from the foul line with each team going 9-for-10. A pair of threes from Krupa and 14 points from
Erin Kaufman would contribute to the Pioneers scoring for the third.
In the fourth, Barber and Hunt combined for an 8-0 run to further bury the Greyhounds.
Kamryn Ruffin would end the game with a jump shot in the paint and two threes to balloon the lead to a game high of 40 points and help secure the 94-57 win.
Malone led in points off turnovers (29-8), second chance points (17-6), and fast break points (9-7). The Pioneers also won in bench points (45-5) and points in the paint (40-18). Kaufman led the team in points with 24 and Bruce with 17. Maroto finished the game with ten rebounds and Price dished out five assists.
Next, Malone travels to Greensburg, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, November 18 to play Seton Hill University. Game time will start at 6:00 P.M.
