CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Malone University volleyball team lost their penultimate match of the regular season to Cedarville University on Friday night in straight sets. The Pioneers fall to 6-20 and 5-10 inside the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The Yellow Jackets are still in search of a potential regular season championship at 21-5 and 13-1 in league action.
Â
Junior
Jaymes Gilbert had 13.5 points on 12 kills, a .478 hitting percentage and seven digs, all team-highs. Sophomore
Helaina Edgar was credited with all 29 assists on offense. Senior
Annika Nichols, junior
Brianne Salinas and freshman
Hailey Conrad threw down five kills each.
Â
Malone was error-free in the first set with 11 kills, but it was not enough to overcome a swarming offensive output by the home squad. Cedarville scored 20 points off of kills and their 14-7 lead to begin the first led them to a 25-19 win in the first.
Â
The Pioneers claimed an early 8-7 lead thanks to a pair of kills by junior
Laiken Wallick, but the Yellow Jackets responded well to retake the advantage. An ace by Edgar capped off a 4-0 run for Malone that brought the team to within two at 21-19, but four of the final five points were tallied by Cedarville in the 25-20 loss.
Â
The wheels fell off the wagon in a 25-15 third set loss where two early timeouts by Head Coach
Rafael Gonzalez could not shift momentum. Gilbert had four kills in the period, but a flurry of service errors took the Pioneers out of the set and ultimately the match.
Â
Malone travels to Ohio Dominican University on Saturday, November 15 for the final regular season match of 2025. First serve is at 1:00 P.M.
