Dragons Disassemble Pioneer Defense

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University volleyball team was defeated by Tiffin University 3-0 on Saturday afternoon despite a season-high .271 hitting percentage (41 kills, 12 errors). The Dragons imposed their will on offense with a .430 mark to move to 8-12 overall and 3-8 inside the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The Pioneers go winless on the weekend and slip to 6-16 and 5-6 in league play.

Tiffin was nearly perfect in set one en route to a 25-16 win. The Dragons had 17 kills and zero errors on 29 swings with a very impressive 15-for-16 (93%) total on sideouts. Eight of the final ten points went to the visitors to claim the lead.

Set two was the closest of the match at 25-23, but Tiffin was able to escape with the victory to go up 2-0. Consecutive kills by Jaymes Gilbert and Hailey Conrad got Malone off to a good start in the set, and the constant pressure of a quality effort on offense for both sides kept the set close. The score was tied ten times in the second, but the Pioneers remained in front for nearly the entire period. The Dragons took their first lead of the set at 22-21 and just pulled away for the two-point victory. Conrad led the way with five kills in the set and Laiken Wallick accumulated four with the team at 17.

Tiffin made quick work of Malone in the third and final set with a 25-17 win. A run of 10 points out of 11 for the Dragons made the score 18-10 and despite some scoring by Annika Nichols in the set, the Pioneers were unable to overcome that deficit.

Conrad (11) and Gilbert (10) were in double-figures on kills with Helaina Edgar at the helm of the offense from the setter position with 38 assists. Gilbert recorded a double-double with 10 digs as well.

The final home match of the 2025 season will come on Tuesday, November 4 when the Lake Erie College Storm visit Osborne Hall for a 7:00 P.M. contest.
