Findlay Controls Contest to Defeat Malone

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University women's soccer team hosted a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match at home on Thursday night versus the University of Findlay Oilers at Pioneer Park. The Pioneers battled hard, but fell to the Oilers by a score of 1-0. Malone falls to 4-6-2 overall and 3-5-1 in G-MAC competition as Findlay improves to 7-3-3 overall and 6-2-1 in G-MAC play.

The first half was dominated by the Oilers as they controlled the time of possession and held the ball on their side of the field for most of the period. Findlay was able to score the game's first and only goal in the 14th minute as they capitalized on their multiple opportunities to take the early 1-0 lead. The Pioneers struggled offensively to generate opportunities as they only had one shot on-goal in the period. The Oilers had 14 shots in the first half in comparison.

The second half was much of the same despite Malone generating a few more shots in the period. Senior forward Brynn Mowrer led the few offensive attempts the Pioneers had with a shot on-goal late during the potential comeback. Sophomores Morgan Kandel and Raegan Radel both contributed offensively to the Pioneers efforts with one shot a piece.

Defensively, Malone was led by junior goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan (4-6-2) who had seven saves on the night as the Pioneers held strong against the Oilers eight shots on-goal. The Oilers blitz the Pioneers 25-4 in total shots for the game. Seniors Camryn Emerling, Hannah Hubbard, and Abby Blaz each played the full 90 minutes for the Pioneers.

Malone will look to put this loss behind them as they prepare for another important G-MAC matchup this Saturday at Ursuline College with kickoff at 12:00 P.M.
