CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University women's basketball team hosted Thomas More University on Saturday and picked up their ninth straight win and eighth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The Pioneers won by a score of 78-51 and now are 14-2 overall and 8-0 in the G-MAC. The Saints fall to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
Malone started the first quarter playing great defense holding Thomas More to only six points to end the period. A three from
Abbey Price put the Pioneers in the lead remainder of the game around the halfway point in the quarter. Malone went on a 15-0 run in the first and led 17-6 at the buzzer.
The team scored 26 points in the second quarter to take a 15 point lead at halftime. All seven made field goals were three's with makes by
Nataley Armstrong,
Brinn Hunt,
Brooklyn Troyer,
Anna Krupa, and
Aila Miller.
Malone was able to double Thomas More in scoring in the third quarter, 16-8. Steals by Krupa and
Ashley Lahmers lead to fast break points for the Pioneers.
Katie Kaufman went 3-4 from the free throw line to end the game by a final score of 78-51.
Miller led the team in scoring with 14 points, Armstrong had 11, and Krupa netted 10. Malone was able to score 16 points off 19 Saint turnovers. Krupa led the team with four steals and
Erin Kaufman had three. 43 of Malone's points came off the bench and 42 from inside the paint. The Pioneers won the rebounding battle 41-23, and that led to a 15-0 difference in second chance points.
Malone's next game is at Walsh University on Thursday, January 23. Tip off time is at 5:30 P.M.
