ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Malone University men's soccer team traveled to Rochester, New York where they defeated Roberts Wesleyan University by a score of 2-1. The Pioneers are now 2-0 this season.
RWU attempted a shot on
Gavyn Ernst in the 33rd minute but he was able to protect the net. Malone had a total of four saves with RWU taking five shots on goal. Ernst played the entire 90 minutes.
A throw in by
Nate Werthmuller to the other side of the net set up
Dylan DiPiero for the first goal of the game in the 43rd minute. DiPiero was able to get a head on the ball for his second goal this season. At the end of the first half Malone was up 1-0.
Goal number two for the Pioneers was made during the 53rd minute by
Mason Gradel who received a pass from
Gavin Csiszar who gathered the ball off a rebound in the second half.
Towards the end of the match, RWU scored a goal at the 83rd minute to make the final score 2-1 giving the Pioneers their second win of the 2024 season.
Elijah Caparello-Wanless and
Braden Lamb both competed the entire 90 minutes of play.
Malone's next match is Thursday, September 19 at Cedarville University with a start time of 7:00 p.m. Their first home match will take place Saturday, September 21 at Pioneer Park starting at 1:00 p.m. against Tiffin University.
