Home Opener Ends in Loss for Men's Soccer

CANTON, Ohio – Malone University hosted Tiffin University on Saturday, September 21 in their 2024 home opener at Pioneer Park. The Pioneers were defeated with an end score of 2-1. Malone is now 2-1-1 and 0-1-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) and Tiffin is 3-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the G-MAC.

Malone put in the first goal of the game in the 11th minute. Gavin Csiszar shot the ball just over their goalkeeper's head with an assist from Dylan DiPiero. Malone had a great first half out-shooting Tiffin 9-2. They also had five corner kicks in the first half compared to Tiffin's two.

The Dragons came back in the second half with two goals to secure their victory. Their first was in the 52nd minute on an own goal and the second was in the 83rd minute off a corner kick.

Gavyn Ernst (2-1-1) had a total of four saves. Ernst, Elijah Caparello-Wanless, and Braden Lamb all competed the entire 90 minutes. Tiffin out-shot Malone in the second half, 11-1. Both the Pioneers and Dragons had a total of five shots on goal throughout the game.

The Pioneers next match will be against California University of Pennsylvania at Pioneer Park with a 6:00 P.M. kickoff.
