THE GAME
Looking to rebound following a tough stretch of contests, the Lady Pioneers came out of the gates firing as
Jorjia Meza put Malone up early.
Abbey Burns continued her stellar play as she sandwiched two goals around an
Olivia Marcantonio rifle, putting Malone up 4-0 through one. The defense was dominant in the first quarter as they gave up zero shots and forced seven turnovers.
Regan Blythe got the second quarter started with a bang as the freshman defensive star ventured into the offensive side of the field for her first career goal. Entering the game with zero points on the season, Blythe assisted
Emma Weintz for her first career assist, she then scored once more to bring her total to three points within two minutes while putting Malone up 7-0. Marcantonio ripped home yet another as the Pioneers continued to dominate. The Arrows stopped the bleeding as they got on the board at the 7:55 mark. Marcantonio and Burns opened the wound right back up as they closed the half with a pair of electric goals. The Pioneers were firmly in control at the half as they found themselves up 10-1.
Maria Fusillo opened the second half with her 7th goal of the season, Marcantonio followed suit with her third of the day. The Arrows showed resilience as they scraped out another goal to bring the scoring to 12-2. Meza and Weintz got the Pioneers back on their dominant track with a pair of flashy goals. With the Australian National Anthem gracing the field, Burns channeled her Aussie roots and split the defense for her fourth goal of the day, bringing her season total to 28. Just seconds later,
Zoe Zesing took a Burns pass and ripped it through the Ursuline defense, scoring her first career goal. As she dropped her stick, Zesing unleashed a ferocious roar, encapsulating a much needed day for the Pioneers.
Seanna McDougall opened the fourth quarter with her third goal of the season as Malone looked to put the finishing touches on this contest as they now led 17-2. Ursuline battled back with a pair of their own. With time winding down, the crowd got what they wanted as star goalie
Sommer-Jo Grieser entered the offensive side of the field. Burns found Grieser cutting near the crease, she split the defense and deposited her first career goal past the Ursuline goalie. Zesing rounded out the scoring with her second of the day, leaving Malone triumphant, 19-4.
