Lady Pioneers Drop Pair Over Easter Weekend

Findlay, OH & Canton, OH -- Over this past weekend the Malone University Women's Lacrosse team competed in a pair of contests. 

Traveling to the University of Findlay on Saturday, March 30th, the Lady Pioneers fought hard but ultimately fell 17-4. 

Back at home, Malone hosted Daeman University on Monday, April 1st. The Women battled injuries and dropped the contest 20-1.

THE GAME
The Oilers came out firing as they ripped home eight goals in the first half as a stout defense tamed the ferocious Pioneer offense. Sommer-Jo Grieser continued her stout play as she turned away eleven of the nineteen on goal shots fired by the Oilers. Malone also forced nine turnovers.

Looking to bounce back in the second half, Abbey Burns opened the scoring with her 21st goal of the season. While the Oilers countered with a pair of their own, Burns fired home another goal on a feed from Jorjia Meza. While the Oilers continued to rattle off shots, Burns managed to fire home two more and cap the scoring for the Pioneers as they ultimately fell 17-4.

THE GAME
The Wildcats came out firing as they started the game off with eight unanswered goals. Jorjia Meza looked to get things rolling as she stopped the onslaught with a rocket of her own. Unfortunately, it was the only goal the Pioneers could muster as they ultimately fell 20-1.

  • Abbey Burns led the Pioneers with 4 goals. Jorjia Meza scored a goal while assisting on another. 
  • Cambrie Neuenschwander led the way defensively with 3 caused turnovers and 7 ground balls. 
  • Sommer-Jo Grieser was electric in goal as she saved 29 shots over the weekend, bringing her over the century mark for the season. 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lady Pioneers head to Crestview Hills, KY to take on the Thomas More University Saints for a G-MAC contest. Start time is slated for 4:00 PM on Saturday, April 6th.
