Baseball Stumbles in Midweek Game Against Notre Dame College

Canton, OH-- On Wednesday, the Malone University baseball team aimed to improve their performance and gain momentum after a tough start to the season. After taking an early lead of 2-0, the Pioneers ended up losing to visiting Notre Dame College with a final score of 4-2.

Essentials
  • Notre Dame 4 - Malone 2
  • Records: Malone University Pioneers (4-24, 1-12 G-MAC) | Notre Dame College Falcons (6-21, 3-9 MEC)
  • Location: Canton, Ohio | Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium
The Game
In the bottom of the first inning, Malone's Devin Brown lined out to lf, but JC Philippi's double sparked hope for the Pioneers. However, despite JC Philippi advancing to third, Malone couldn't capitalize, ending the inning with no runs scored.

The second inning saw some action from both teams. The Falcons  managed to get runners on base, but a double play ended their scoring opportunity. Malone, on the other hand, took advantage of an error by the pitcher to score two runs, courtesy of a double by Jake Aleman and a subsequent RBI by Gavin Shrum.

The Falcons fought back in the top of the fifth inning, capitalizing on errors by Malone's defense to score four runs. Malone attempted a comeback in the bottom of the inning. They had the bases loaded but were unable to bring any runs home.

The Pioneers' pitching kept them competitive throughout the game, but unfortunately, the offense struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities with timely hits to bring runners home.
