Pioneering Success: Malone Baseball Clinches Third Straight Win

Avon, OH-- Malone wasted no time getting back into the thick of things after their doubleheader sweep over Walsh yesterday. The Pioneers were aiming to extend their winning streak to three games as they hit the road to face Notre Dame College.

A strong performance of clutch hitting at the plate guided Malone to a high-scoring 9-8 victory.

The Essentials
  • Malone 9 - Notre Dame 8
  • Records: Malone (9-35, 5-23 G-MAC) | Notre Dame (10-31, 7-17 MEC)
  • Location: Avon, Ohio | Mercy Health Stadium
The Game
The game started with Malone's lead-off batter, Devin Brown, drawing a walk and then showcasing some speed on the base paths, stealing second and advancing to third on an error. Zach Flohr's clutch single drove Brown home, giving Malone an early 1-0 lead.

Malone extended their lead in the second inning with timely hits. Pioneer pitcher Jacob Rollyson held the Falcons without a run until the bottom of the fourth inning. Despite his strong pitching, Notre Dame was able to capitalize and score two runs, one due to an error and the other from an RBI ground out to second base.

In the fifth bottom of the fifth inning, NDC managed to take their first lead of  the game scoring three runs. Coach Crank's team was determined to answer back and they did! The Pioneers exploded for five runs, highlighted by timely hits and JC Philippi's big two-RBI single, propelling them to an 8-5 lead.

Pitcher Ben France then entered the game and pitched two exceptionally solid innings, not allowing a single run. He also threw four strikeouts.

The last inning got a little tense when the Falcons scored on an error, narrowing the score to 9-8. However, pitcher Michael Paljich kept his cool and guided the ship safely to shore, securing the win for Malone with a final score of 9-8.
