MIDLAND, Mich. — The Malone University women's basketball team (16-12, 12-8 G-MAC) closed out its regular season with an 84-66 loss to Northwood University (20-7, 16-4 G-MAC) on Saturday, March 2.
The Pioneers had already clinched a berth in the G-MAC Tournament but their seed could have depended on the outcome of Saturday's regular season finale. The Pioneers faced an early deficit as they trailed the Timberwolves 24-15 after a quarter of play. The hosts turned things up another notch in the second quarter and led 50-32 at the break. Northwood continued to extend their lead in the third quarter as they outscored the Pioneers 26-16. Malone won the fourth quarter 18-8 but it wasn't enough to get themselves back in the game. The loss means that Malone will be the No. 7 seed heading into the tournament and will face off with No. 2-seeded Kentucky Wesleyan University (21-5, 16-4 G-MAC).
