CANTON, Ohio. -- The Malone University Esports program will be hosting its NEXT GEN Esports Tournament on Saturday, March 2 in the Johnson Center for Worship & The Fine Arts.
The NEXT GEN tournament will be open to high school students to show off their skills, win prizes, and have fun. It will feature both Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Rocket League competitions. The entire event will be live-streamed with commentary, students can participate for free, all entrants will receive a free t-shirt, and lunch will be provided. Students also have the opportunity to compete for a trophy and prizes. Additionally, scholarship opportunities will be available for any participants.
Malone Esports head coach
Andrew Boak is excited for the upcoming tournament.
"After hosting two of our
Rocket Smash events, Malone Esports is looking towards the next generation of high school players by starting a new tournament with the same idea," Boak said. "
NEXT GEN is the beginning of our new format for these annual tournaments starting with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Rocket League. We've taken our feedback, and have made changes that will allow us greater flexibility with what we can offer students that are looking to showcase their skills and transition towards competing at a collegiate level of competition. We here at Malone are very excited to see the new and returning talent compete to be the first champions of
NEXT GEN."
Smash check-in will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by Rocket League check-in at 11:30 a.m. The link to register is
