Pioneers Win Mayor's Cup in Front of Packed Crowd

North Canton, OH-- In front of a packed crowd at the Cecchini Center, Malone (13-12,6-11 G-MAC) who had won two straight battled Walsh (17-5,11-5 G-MAC). The packed crowd watched the Malone University Pioneers retain the Mayors' Cup in the 60th edition of the annual rivalry battle 67-57.

Malone bursted out of the gates with an impressive start, matching Walsh stride for stride. Both teams exhibited relentless defensive efforts, creating a challenging environment for scoring opportunities in the early stages of the game. With the Pioneers down one, Carter Piatt drilled a three to give Malone the lead at 16-14 with 9:26 remaining in the first half.

Jake Bruns drained a pivotal three-pointer, swinging the momentum back in favor of the Pioneers, who now cling to a slender 22-21 lead. Coach Wallrapp's team closed the half on a 9-2 run to give them a 32-25 lead heading into halftime. The main question was whether Malone could finish strong. In their previous matchup, they were in control for most of the game, but Walsh made a late comeback, clinching the win in overtime.

Starting the second half, Carter Piatt knocked down another three-pointer, extending Malone's lead to 10 points, the largest of the game. With 14:57 left on the clock, Walsh narrowed the lead to just two points, yet the Pioneers remained composed, showing no signs of panic.

The Scoring was picked up and even saw Malone back up by double digits. Simon Balir Drilled a jumper to seal the deal and help the Pioneers capture the 67-57 Mayor's Cup Victory.
