CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game to Glenville State University on Wednesday evening by a score of 92-69. The Pioneers fall to 4-7 on the season while the Pioneers of Glenville State move to 6-5.
The Pioneers struggled in the first half and fell behind 53-27. Glenville State shot 20-for-29 (69.0%) in the period, including eight three-point field goals. Malone could not get anything to fall themselves at just 9-of-29 (31.0%).
The home squad was able to win the second half 42-39, but it was not enough to cover the massive hole they found themselves in. The bench unit of
Ed Wright II and
Jacob Ernst platooned for 16 and 14 points, a new career-high for the freshman Ernst.
Oliver Stefanovic had five points and four rebounds in the second half as well.
In total, Malone lost the rebounding battle 41-28, but they would grab four more rebounds on the offensive end. Malone turned those second chances into points and won in second chances 15-10. Glenville State had a 10-point edge in the paint, 40-30.
After the holiday break, Malone returns to Osborne Hall on Thursday, January 2 to face Bryant & Stratton College (Buffalo) at 2:00 P.M.
