CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University women's basketball team won against Davenport University Saturday, November 23 by a score of 81-65. The Pioneers now hold an overall record of 5-1 and the Panthers now 0-5 overall.
Malone started out the game with a three point basket from
Brooklyn Troyer assisted by
Kyli Horn at 9:27. Davenport was able to keep with the Pioneers eventually taking a three point lead at 4:05 in the first quarter. Malone was able gain their lead back late in the period off a layup from
Kylee Bruce assisted by
Nataley Armstrong.
The Pioneers were able to keep their lead the rest of the game. To end the second quarter,
Aila Miller was able to get a three point play off an and-one in the paint. This gave Malone a 17-point lead at halftime.
Throughout the third quarter, the Pioneers increased their lead to 25. The result would not be in question in the fourth period, but Davenport did win the quarter 25-20 to get to the 81-65 final score.
Malone as a team scored 33 points off the bench compared to Davenport's nine. Second chance points also goes to the Pioneers with 17 in comparison to the Panthers' six. Both teams were able to score 25 points off of turnovers and each team took the lead twice. Malone had 42 points in the paint and six fast break points. Davenport had 38 in the paint points and five fast break points.
To lead the Pioneers,
Erin Kaufman had 25 points and eight rebounds and Miller with thirteen points and six rebounds.
Malone's next game is home Tuesday, November 26. They will play Seton Hill University with a tip off time of 5:30 P.M.
