INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A dominant second quarter was key for the Malone University women's basketball team to win 85-54 over the University of Indianapolis. The Pioneers open the 2024-25 season with a 2-0 record while the Greyhounds fall to 0-2.
Malone fell behind 12-10 after the first quarter, but a 30-9 difference in quarter two propelled the Pioneers to a 19-point halftime lead. The team was 12-of-18 (66.7%) from the field in that period.
The second quarter began with a 9-0 scoring run that featured baskets by
Brinn Hunt,
Kyli Horn and
Aila Miller. From there,
Erin Kaufman took over the scoring an extended the lead to double figures with her work in the painted area. At the media timeout, Malone had blitz their opponents, 21-7. A flurry of turnovers late in the period by UINDY caused a 7-0 run in the final minute and change.
Brooklyn Troyer opened up the second half with a make from beyond the arc to begin a third quarter win for the Pioneers.
Elena Oliver added a successful three-point try in the period and Malone took a 56-36 lead into the fourth quarter.
The onslaught continued in the fourth quarter as the Pioneers put 29 points on the scoreboard to end the game.

Anna Krupa scored to give all 13 participating student-athletes points in the blowout win, 85-54.
Malone held a 41-27 advantage in rebounds, with 14 coming on the offensive end of the floor. The Greyhounds had 25 turnovers that turned into 34 Pioneer points on the day. The squad shot 50.0% (30-for-60) and held their opposition to 37.9% (22-for-58) and 21.4% (2-for-13) from three-point land.
Erin Kaufman led all scorers with 20 points and was 9-for-10 from the field. Troyer (16 points) and Horn (11 points) were also in double-figures. Miller brought in a team-high eight rebounds and
Nataley Armstrong distributed six assists, one off her career-high.
The road trip for Malone women's basketball continues on Wednesday, November 13 at Slippery Rock University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 P.M.
