Fifth Shutout of the Season Results in Victory for Malone

OWENSBORO, Ky. – In Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Saturday, the 6-4-1 (4-4-0 G-MAC) Malone University women's soccer team won 1-0 over Kentucky Wesleyan College (3-8-0, 2-5-0 G-MAC). Junior Camryn Emerling recorded the team's lone goal in the 58th minute to secure the win and the team defense preserved their fifth shutout of 2024.

The Panthers went on the attack early with three shots in the first 14 minutes of play, but sophomore goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan (6-4-1) made saves on both attempts that were on frame.

Junior Brynn Mowrer and freshman Stephanie Tovar each attempted shots on goal shortly after, but those looks were turned away. Six of the seven first half shots for the Pioneers were on target after sophomore Maria Fusillo, sophomore Gracie Ashton and freshman Raegan Radel had shots late in the scoreless first half.

Senior Morgan Ross had the first shot of the second half, and then it was Emerling who found the back of the net to give the team the lead. From there, the team relied heavily on their highly touted defense to nab the win.

The Panthers took the final four shots of the match, but Henderhan saved two for the 1-0 victory. She played all 90 minutes, with seniors Madison Woodward and Reagan McCourt both played 85 minutes or more defensively.

The team's were even with nine shots apiece at the end of the match. Malone was able to put seven of those shots on goal.

A rivalry game awaits the Pioneers on Tuesday, October 15 when the Walsh University Cavaliers make the short trip south to Pioneer Park. Kick-off is slated for 6:00 P.M.
