GREENVILLE, N.C. – The NCCAA has unveiled their latest national coaches poll and the Malone University women's soccer team has gone from unranked to number six after their 5-1-1 start to the 2024 season. Campbellsville University is atop the NCCAA rankings at a perfect 10-0-0.
Most recently, the Pioneers were defeated by NCAA #7 Ashland University 3-0, but prior to that, the team had put together four shutouts in a row in the midst of a five-match win streak. Malone is 3-1-0 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) action with 1-0 victories over Tiffin University, Lake Erie College and Ursuline College.
The Pioneer defense has been crucial to the team's success. Malone is ranked fifth in the NCCAA in lowest opponent scoring average at 0.71 goals per match and fifth in save percentage at .839. Goalkeeper
Amelia Henderhan was named Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Athlete of the Week with three clean sheets two weeks ago.
When the Pioneers have gotten looks at the net, they tend to put their opportunities on target. Malone is ranked tenth in NCAA DII in shot accuracy at 62.4% of shots being on-goal. 13 of
Brynn Mowrer's 20 shots have been on target this season.
The team is on the road on Thursday, October 3 at Ursuline College. Kick-off is slated for 3:30 P.M.
