Pioneers Split with Timberwolves in G-MAC Doubleheader

MIDLAND, Mich – On Friday afternoon the Malone University softball team had their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) doubleheader on the road.

After Northwood University shut out the Pioneers in game one, Malone returned in game two to shut out the Timberwolves.

THE ESSENTIALS
  • Game 1: Northwood University Timberwolves 4 – Malone University Pioneers 0
  • Game 2: Malone University Pioneers 1 – Northwood University Timberwolves
  • Records: Northwood (22-13, 6-4 G-MAC) | Malone (9-17, 3-7 G-MAC)
  • Location: Midland, Michigan | Fisher Stadium

GAME ONE
Jensen Miller got the start in the circle and would go on to pitch a complete game, striking out five in the process.

Both teams could not seem to get much going in the first couple of innings as the Pioneers and the Timberwolves each got one base runner, but neither was able to advance beyond second base.

Northwood scored two on a double in the bottom of the third and a long single in the bottom of the fourth were the only runs scored in the game.

The Pioneers were able to get Hannah Offenberger on base with a walk but were unable to prevent the shut out, as Northwood won 4-0.

GAME TWO
Elizabeth Dyke would pitch a complete game in game two. Her first test came in the first inning, as with bases loaded, Dyke was able to strike out and then fielded a ground ball before throwing to first base for the final out without Northwood being able to score.

Amber Burick was able to score on a Karlie Duvall sacrifice fly for the only run of game two.

The Pioneers were able to overcome another bases loaded two-out situation in the bottom of the fourth to keep the shut out alive. Overall, Northwood was able to reach base on 8 hits but

Malone held them scoreless to come away with the 1-0 win.
