Men's Lacrosse Falls to Wheeling University

CANTON -- The Malone University men's lacrosse team played another Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) game on Saturday.

The Pioneers braved cold temperatures, terrible storm, and brutal wind gusts when they welcomed the Wheeling Jesuit University Cardinals to King Field.

Unfortunately it the late comeback attempt by the Pioneers was not enough to get it done against the Cardinals.

THE ESSENTIALS
  • Final Score: Wheeling Jesuit University 17 - Malone University Pioneers 14
  • Records: Wheeling (4-6, 2-1 G-MAC) | Malone (6-5, 0-3 G-MAC)
  • Location: Canton | Pioneer Park - King Field
THE GAME
The Cardinals scored quick but Ramsey Burnard and Kenny Kaiser answered back to go up 2-1 early in the first.

The freshman, Zac Smargiasso, found the back of the net late in the first quarter but Malone was outscored 4-3 to end the first.

The second quarter was goal filled, with 11 in total, but the five Malone goals scored by Talon Heath and Nolan Winter weren't enough to over come Wheeling's offense.

The Cardinals held a 10-8 lead going into the halftime break.

The third quarter wasn't pretty for the Pioneers, getting outscored 5-1, with Talon Heath keeping them in the game.

Nolan Winter, Kenny Kaiser, and Ramsey Burnard tried their best to mount a comeback, outscoring the Cardinals 5-2, but it just wasn't enough as Wheeling takes the win 17-14.

DETAILS
  • Nolan Winter lead the Pioneers with 5 goals, with 2 of those coming unassisted.
