CANTON -- The Malone University Pioneers closed out the 2022-23 regular season on Saturday by hosting the newest member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, Northwood University.
Prior to tip-off the Pioneers honored the careers of:
Bo Myers,
Levi Seiler,
Justin Miller, and
Erwin Gutic as part of the Senior Day festivities.
As for the game itself, Malone cruised to a 95-63 win over Northwood to help secure the Pioneers' bid to next week's 2023 Great Midwest Championship Tournament.
After a four-way tiebreaker was applied, Malone will be the No. 5 seed in next week's eight-team tournament.

THE GAME
Malone opened up the game on a 12-2 run, and never trailed the entire afternoon.
A
Bo Myers three-pointer capped off the run to give the Pioneers their first double-digit lead of the day less than four minutes into the game.
Northwood weathered the early storm however, and fought back to within just one point at 12-11 with 14:06 still to play in the opening half.
Malone embarked on a 12-3 run to push their lead back out to 27-14 with just over ten minutes remaining in the half. The Pioneers' advantage never slipped below double-digits the rest of the afternoon.
That run was jumpstarted by a
Caleb Conard triple, and capped off by a basket from
Brady Moore.
Helped by shooting nearly 57% from the field, including over 45% from three-point range (5-11), the Pioneers were able to build up a 51-34 advantage by halftime.
The Timberwolves were held to just 29 points in the second half, as Malone's defense did everything they needed to help secure the win.
On the offensive end the Pioneers had their lead out to 20 points with 12 minutes still to play in the game, and led 78-47 with 9:30 remaining.
Ultimately Malone was able to cap off the Senior Day celebration with a 95-63 win.
DETAILS
- Senior Bo Myers led all scorers with 23 points. He also grabbed six rebounds
- Simon Blair continued his strong play as of late with 13 points on an efficient 5-7 shooting from the field.
- Justin Miller added 12 points. He dished out 11 assists, and narrowly missed out on a triple-double with 9 rebounds.
- Terrance Broughton (12) and Levi Seiler (10) rounded out the double digit scorers for Malone.
- The Pioneers outrebounded the Timberwolves 43-28. Malone did an especially good job of keeping Northwood off the offensive glass. The Timberwolves got just five extra chances on rebounds. Meanwhile Malone had 15 offensive rebounds for 19 second-chance points.
WHAT'S NEXT
As the No. 5 seed in the Great Midwest Championship Tournament, the Pioneers will travel to the No. 4 seed Tiffin University for a quarterfinal matchup Tuesday night.
