CANTON, Ohio. — The Malone University men's basketball team (7-4,1-3 G-MAC) defeated West Virginia Wesleyan (1-10,0-5 MEC) on Tuesday afternoon, December 18 by a score of 71-59.
Malone was trying to gain some much needed momentum heading into Christmas break. The Pioneers were able to grab their second straight win by hitting the bords hard creating second chance opportunities. Malone took control early in the game, dominating the first half and going into the break with a score of 42-30. As a team, Malone was 47.22% from the field, 26.32% from beyond the arc, and a solid 75.00% from the free-throw line. It was also a solid defensive effort holding the Bobcats to just 30 first half points.
Maintaining their momentum in the second half, Malone showcased consistency in their play. Despite a slight drop in shooting percentages, the team managed to secure the win with a final field goal percentage of 43.1%, a three-point percentage of 26.7%, and a free-throw percentage of 70.0%. Biggz Johnson and
Fraser LaRocque made some nice contributions off the bench. Fraser anchored the paint defensively with three blocks. Once again Malone's defense was strong holding West Virginia Wesleyan to just 29 points in the second half.
Inside the Box Score
Aaron Badibo led the Pioneers with an impressive double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Carter Piatt was the leading scorer with 15 points.
Biggz Johnson was money off the bench scoring 11 points while 2-2 from beyond the arc.
Fraser LaRocque gave the Pioneers great minutes scoring 10 points, had six rebounds, and three blocks.
Caleb Conard was efficient with eight points on 4-9 from the field.
What's Next
Malone will be back in action at Osborne Hall on Saturday, December 30 as they host Thiel College. The non-conference game is slated for a 3:00 tip-off.
