No. 1 Ashland Overpowers the Pioneers at Home

CANTON – The Malone University women's basketball team returned home after three road wins and welcomed the top ranked Ashland University Eagles into Osborne Hall.

THE ESSENTIALS
  • Final Score: Ashland University 76 – Malone University 37
  • Records: Malone (14-6, 8-4 G-MAC) | Ashland (21-0, 13-0 G-MAC)
  • Location: Canton, Ohio | Osborne Hall

THE GAME

Both teams took a few possessions to score. Brooklyn Troyer started the Pioneer scoring with a three-pointer followed up immediately by a shot from Alexis Hutchison in the paint.

Unfortunately, that was the final lead for Malone as Ashland quickly took over.

A jump shot from Emma Kallas at the 7:10 mark in the second quarter stopped a twenty point run for the Eagles. Hutchison got the final score of the first half as the Pioneers went to the locker room with a twenty-six point deficient.

The second half had similar results of the first half. The end of the third quarter saw the Pioneers were able to put together a 7-2 run, highlighted with a three pointer from Brianna Fitzgerald.

The Pioneers were able to close out the game with a couple of shots from the charity stripe, but it wasn't enough as Ashland continued their undefeated season with a final of 76-37.

THE DETAILS
  • Alexis Hutchison scored 11 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. She has now scored double-digits in the last consecutive 24 games, dating back to last season.
  • Brooklyn Troyer also pulled down 7 rebounds to help lead the Pioneers to outrebound the Eagles 32-27.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Pioneers will head on the road for a four-game road stretch. The first game will be this Saturday at Cedarville University. Tip off will be at 1:00 p.m.
