CANTON -- The Malone University volleyball team wrapped up their annual Hall of Fame City Challenge on Saturday.
The Pioneers fell to Davenport University 3-0 in Saturday's first game, but responded with a straight set win over Bloomsburg University later in the afternoon.

Despite getting a double-digit kill performance from
Anna Mallette for the second time this season, Malone was unable to knock off Davenport.Â
The Panthers opened up the match with a 25-18 win in the first set. They followed that up with set wins of 25-22 and 25-16 to take down the Pioneers in straight sets.Â
THE MATCH | Malone 3 - Bloomsburg 0
Malone came back later in the afternoon for the final match of the weekend tournament, and scored a dominant win over Bloomsburg.Â
The Pioneers were paced offensively by freshman
Gabi Smith with 10 kills.
Ri'Gyn Humes had 9.5 points herself, including three service aces.Â
Malone held a slim 19-18 lead late in the second set before Humes put down back-to-back kills to give the Pioneers some breathing room.Â
MU was able to get every single player into the match in a third set that saw freshman
Annika Nichols put down her first collegiate point.Â

Offensively
Gabi Smith led Malone with 16 kills on the afternoon.Â
Kristen Hankins had six total blocks defensively, while
Macy McCauley posted 29 digs.Â
WHAT'S NEXT
The Pioneers shift their focus to Great Midwest Athletic Conference play next week. Malone opens up the 2022 conference slate on the road at Ohio Dominican University Friday night.Â
