CANTON -- The Malone University volleyball program wrapped up their current homestand on Saturday by hosting Northwood University. 

The Timberwolves controlled the majority of the match, and held off a late Pioneer rally to pick up the 3-0 win.

THE MATCH
Set One
Northwood scored the opening three points of the match, and quickly stretched their lead out to 8-2. 

The Pioneers got as close as 15-11 on back-to-back NU attack errors, but the early deficit proved to be too much to overcome. 

In the end the Timberwolves took set one by a final score of 25-15.

Set Two
The second set was dominated by Northwood early on. The Timberwolves scored the first seven points, and at one point held a 10-1 lead. 

Malone fought back by playing Northwood even the rest of the way, but yet again the early hole was too much for the Pioneers to get out of. 

Northwood was able to take a 2-0 lead in the match with an identical 25-15 set two win. 

Set Three
Despite having their backs against the wall, Malone came out fighting to open the third set. 

Five unanswered points, which included a pair of kills by Gabi Smith, put the Pioneers ahead 7-3. 

The Timberwolves closed the gap, but Malone had answer. 

Grace Rosko put down a kill, Northwood made an error, and Molly Bullion scored two service aces to give MU a 14-8 advantage. 

Unfortunately Northwood continued to fight back. 

With the set tied at 19-19 the Timberwolves scored six of the last seven points to wrap up the match with a 25-20 set win.

DETAILS
Gabi Smith led Malone with six kills, meanwhile Ri'Gyn Humes added five kills on a .444 attack percentage.

Molly Bullion finished with a team-high 11 assists. 

WHAT'S NEXT
Malone hits the road next week for a pair of conference matches. 

The Pioneers will be at Lake Erie on Friday and at Ursuline on Saturday.
