Softball Falls to Mercyhurst and Seton Hill on Friday

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- On Friday, the Malone University softball team traveled to Pennsylvania for non-conference games against both Mercyhurst University and Seton Hill University.

Both games were played on the campus of Seton Hill.

In the first game Malone (3-6, 0-0 G-MAC) fell to Mercyhurst (11-5, 0-0 PSAC) 7-0.

Later in the day the Pioneers took on the host Seton Hill.

The Griffins are the third team 'receiving votes' in the most recent NFCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Strong pitching and defense were not enough as MU lost 1-0.

Game 1 vs Mercyhurst University Highlights
The Lakers opened up the scoring with a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. They added two more to their total in the second inning.

Mercyhurst went on to score one more run in the third, and three in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-0.

Malone's offense scattered six hits throughout the game, two of them coming off the bat of Erika Johnson

Unfortunately the Pioneers struggled to get the much needed timely hits. MU stranded nine runners on the bases.

In the end Mercyhurst was able to close out the 7-0 win by working out of a jam in the top of the seventh.

Game 2 vs Seton Hill University Highlights
Elizabeth Dyke tossed a complete game in the circle. She allowed just five hits, unfortunately one of those was a solo home run in the top of the third inning.

Malone's offense was limited to just two hits, and could not break through for a run as the Griffins held on to that 1-0 lead the entire way for the win.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Malone will play a doubleheader at Seton Hill tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
